Match 2 : Vs Champions : Won

What started out this weekend as a hopeful one sided match with Bombay Boys looking the favourites to win, finally ended with a nail-biting finish taking the match right upto the last over. After losing the toss to Champions, and having to field, BB still seemed to have got off to a good start. The first 10 overs showed tons of promise, the next 10 and the following innings - absolutely none. Excellent stats from Asif Bhai, 4-1-10-3 and decent contributions from Ketan 3-0-8-2, Monty 4-0-15-2 Arun 4-0-17-0, Chakra 4-0-22-0 and Anand 1-0-5-0 had the Champions bundled out for a not-too-bad not-too-bad 77.

Now ( pause here for effect ! ) It didn’t seem that difficult a task. Atleast initially. Till it became hopeless.

The champions played a total mind game and sledging was at its best. Our openers failed. Monty got caught between deciding to go-for-it and play-it-safe and was back to the pavilion too quickly. Arun didn’t make it either and was joined by Satchit shortly. It was left to Ketan and Vikram to take us to the end who played it smart and played quick strokes. An admirable effort from Vikram and a good knock by Ketan kept it going till KT fell too. Attempts from the skipper and Anand added just a couple of runs and the overs were getting over too soon. Vikram held on steady till the end and Asif ended the finale with the last 2 runs in the very last over with 2 balls to spare. A cool start but a very unecessary risky finish. Needless to say, it was an exciting match alright ! We sure had a great time !

Point to be noted : We gave 28 extras ! Bowling Check ! And the batting line-up totally collapsed. I know its easy for a non-player to be a critic (even a critic is someone who’s been on the field usually) but face it guys, we could have done better. You are the Bombay Boys !

Match 1 : Vs Gladiators : Won

Bombay Boys took on Gladiators (previously known as TBD-XI) in their first match of Season 2008. After winning the toss and electing to bat, BB got off to a good start, with a steady opening by Nitesh Kadam (now slowly being known as Aadha Kadam ! J ) and Dada (Rajib Das). The partnership ended in an early FOW though. Monty (Mahantesh) Komanur and KT started off their brilliant knocks letting the audience catch a sneak-peak of what lay ahead. A few dependable 6s and 4s from each of them had the fans cheering like crazy.
Satchit (Mr. Dependable – Does he look like he cares !) was a good contributor too - in all taking the score to a good 133 runs.

From a bowling angle, talking from a non-player point of view, Bombay Boys seems to have a pretty strong lineup with each of the bowlers pitching in and taking wickets on and off. Asif and Venu opened and each had their share of good overs. Arun Kadam proved his prowess here with a cool statistic of 4 overs ( 1 of them being a maiden) - 12 runs - 1 wicket (4-1-12-1). The best part of watching this innings was the way the stumps were flying off the ground. 3 huge “bowled” from Monty and 1 big one from Arun, and the boys had them all squared away. Overall a good start, The result of the game may not have a bearing on the finals of this tournament but the confidence built up will no doubt come in handy for the future games.

The match, nevertheless, was full on interruptions. For those who missed it, we even had the 911 cops come in and send our boys out of the field. Turns out some high school boys team had come over for baseball practice, and probably got scared looking at our team, so just called 911 and had them do the task.

Point to be noted : We made a good start, but its still too early to say. Just need to wait and watch.
